Planting Roots for a Bountiful Future
In 2014 we (Roy and Sandra Lowe) purchased the property that became Eden Oaks Vineyard. Since it had been vacant for three years, there was so much work. The house was originally built in 1910. It’s been updated numerous times over the years. In the past the property was a tobacco farm. A tobacco barn, a corn crib, a smoke house, and a stable barn remain as well as the house.
While working on the front porch our son Todd said, “Mom, do you realize you’ve purchased a vineyard?” Since we’re located in the Swan Creek AVA (American Viticultural Area,) we thought that made sense. That’s why we started the vineyard. We visited and talked with many of the surrounding vineyards in the area. Also, we researched via books, internet, magazines and other sources on how to start our vineyard. Roy planted our first grapevines in 2015. While brainstorming the name of the vineyard, Roy came up with EDEN OAKS VINEYARD for two reasons. First, our granddaughter’s name is Eden. Second, many lovely century old oak trees adorn the property.
Eden Oaks Vineyard is a family affair. Our son Todd and our grandchildren Andrew and Eden help. Todd’s fiancée, April and her daughter Amber assist. We have numerous grapevines, elderberries, fruit trees, roses, herbs and other plants. Also, our goats are “furry weed eaters.” Plus, we breed and raise Beagle and Jack A Bee (Beagle/Jack Russell) dogs. (Check out our You Tube channel — EDEN OAKS BEAGLES) as well as our Facebook.
Todd and April have started their new business, FIRESIDE ESPRESSO. They make the most delightful coffee creations. Please follow them online and on Facebook.
Eden Oaks Vineyard has been and continues to be a “labor of love" as well as a “work in progress.” We have accomplished so much. Yet, there is so much to be done. We are working on additional RV campsites with electricity and water and are going to install a dump station. We hope to open our wine and antique store soon. We would love for you to visit. Check with us periodically to see our progress.
